Training focused on activity for all abilities
Healthi Kids and its partners presented a physical activity inclusion training for Rochester City School District teachers and paraprofessionals May 19. The training was led by Rochester Accessible Adventures and the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities.
Schools taking part in the session at Enrico Fermi School 17 were 8, 9, 16, 17, 22, 23, 29, and 53. The training focused on how to include kids of all abilities in active play. Nominate your neighborhood for a Complete Streets Makeover
Is there a road or intersection in your neighborhood that needs to be better for walking or biking? Is there a public space that should be safer for play? Send in your idea for a Complete Streets Makeover!
The Healthi Kids Coalition, ReConnect Rochester, the City of Rochester, and other partners will team up to give one street or intersection in the City of Rochester a temporary makeover. Imagine bike lanes, safe places to play or rest, better crosswalks, public art, and more! Throughout the process, Healthi Kids and our partners will work alongside the selected neighborhood to advocate for the changes to become permanent!
The project will also be featured in a short documentary that will be shown at ReConnect Rochester's November Street Films event. Click here to nominate the street or intersection that you think needs a Complete Streets Makeover.
Volunteers gathered at School 17 May 19 and throughout the month to share information with the JOSANA neighborhood about the services available to neighbors at the community school.
City receives "10-Minute Walk" grant

The 12 cities were awarded $40,000 to work alongside NRPA, the Trust for Public Land and the Urban Land Institute. Healthi Kids will support the city's efforts as a project partner.
