Healthi Kids refreshes its Change Agenda It was once known as an Advocacy Agenda. But recently the Healthi Kids Coalition refreshed this document to ensure its work on policies, systems and environmental changes remains relevant to the community. The agenda is now called a Change Agenda. “The new name of the agenda reflects that the coalition does much more than advocacy,” said Stephanie David, early childhood policy director for Healthi Kids. “The agenda now more clearly communicates the work that Healthi Kids leads and partners on in our community,” said Mike Bulger, director of Whole Child Health Advocacy. New dates have been announced for a free webinar series on raising healthy pre-K kids. Topics covered include whole child health, infant and early childhood mental health, physical activity for kids and healthy eating and nutrition. This series, held on Zoom, is presented by Healthi Kids and the Rochester City School District. Pre-registration is required. Register today.

Food waste observation conducted at School No. 17 Healthi Kids and the Rochester Food Policy Council conducted a food waste observation at Rochester City School District School No. 17 on March 4. The lunchroom observation looked at the need for sharing tables in city schools and gave Rochester Food Policy Council members an opportunity to learn more about the lunch experience of RCSD children. Sharing tables give students a place to put unopened and uneaten food and beverages. Other children are able to take the food at no cost. The study was supported by Healthi Kids staff and council members. It was made possible through the New York State Department of Health's Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Program.
Infant toddler play days to return in the spring Caregivers and their infants and toddlers are invited to play at several upcoming events. Healthi Kids will hold Infant Toddler Play Days from April 19th at Sully Library and May 17th at Phillis Wheatley Library. The play days will feature stationed activities catered to children ages 0-5 years old. Staff will share information with caregivers on building relationships with their little ones. Urban Ag event sells out! The Rochester Urban Agriculture Conference and Seed Swap took place March 22 at East High School. Hosted by the Rochester Urban Ag Working Group, the free conference featured hands-on workshops, guest experts, and gardening tables and displays. See more pictures.
