Rochester named a Bicycle Friendly Community
Rochester has been named a 2016 Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists!
The city earned a bronze award over all for bicycle friendly initiatives. Thank you to the League of American Bicyclists for mentioning our efforts to promote safe routes to school in the report card!
Despite the recognition, we still have room for improvement. For example, the report shows that bicycle crashes and fatalities are high for our community and recommends a community effort to increase safety around bicycling. Partnering with Causewave, the City of Rochester, Monroe County and advocacy groups, we're working to address the opportunities in the report.
Healthi Kids has assembled a team of key stakeholders who are committed to helping our community achieve streets that are safe and inviting for bicyclists, pedestrians, drivers, and all other users of the road. Stay tuned for more details in the next few months! Together we're working our way to earning our "gold medal".
