Pride Month is a great time to help young children learn about love, kindness, and what makes every family special. The good news is that learning about family diversity can be simple and fun.

Start with a story. The Family Book by Todd Parr uses bright pictures and easy words to show many kinds of families. It helps kids see that no matter what a family looks like, it is built on love.

Next, try watching a show together. The Bravest Knight is a kid-friendly series about courage, kindness, and growing up. The main character is part of a family with two dads, giving children a chance to see and understand different family structures in a positive way.

Finally, take learning out into your community. Pride Day at the Seneca Park Zoo, held Saturday, June 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a fun way to explore together. Families can enjoy animals, story time, and activities that celebrate being yourself and respecting others.

Big lessons don’t have to be complicated. By reading, watching, and exploring together, you can help your child learn that every family is unique—and every family belongs.
